Careel Bay Marina

Careel Bay Marina is a local organisation that supports the recreational and commercial activities of boat owners and waterways business operators in Pittwater. We are located in George Street, AVALON on beautiful Careel Bay.

Careel Bay Marina has been in business for over 40 years. Our goals are to provide professionally managed boat storage and boating repair and maintenance services.

Proposed Development

Careel Bay Marina's concept for the refurbishment of Careel Bay involves upgrading the existing site of "Careel Boat Services"

The Careel Bay Marina's vision for Careel Bay is a place, which provides every opportunity for the community to access and enjoy recreational and commercial boating facilities that celebrates a rich assortment of maritime activities in a Bay of outstanding environmental value.

Its vision is also a Bay where boat owners can access its waters through professionally maintained and managed boat storage and hardstand facilities. Visitors and transients would be able to access the foreshore edge via user-friendly "interface wharves" and jetties, providing access to local business, parks and transport.

Careel Bay Marina's goal is to provide facilities that encourage boating and offers the customers a unique, comfortable, safe and professionally managed range of services.

Careel Bay Marina propose to develop Careel Bay into a facility that provides the ultimate boating convenience. Users may want to refuel the boat, launch a dinghy, access the personal care facilities, recycle or dispose of waste, pick up food items, enjoy a coffee on the waterfront or access the walking tracks to experience Careel Bay's natural beauty.

The proposal would allow this Careel Bay Marina to provide managed access to and from the foreshores of Pittwater for those who live in the local community and for those who do not live there.

For further information or if you wish to discuss any matter please do not hesitate to contact Gordon "Bluey" Woolcott on (02) 9918 2331 or 0418 455 457.

CONSULTING THE COMMUNITY

There has been a lot of interest in the community about the Careel Bay commercial marina site. As should be expected there have been concerns raised about what Austral Monsoon (AMI) may want to do with the site. Two public meetings were held by the "Careel Bay Pittwater Protection Group" (CBPPG) to raise awareness of the public tender and voice concerns about plans for development on the site. Consequently, to ensure the community were well informed and part of the consultation process Austral Monsoon Industries held an information night on 24th May 2002 at Avalon RSL.

Mayor Patricia Giles, Cr Alex McTaggart, Cr Bob Grace, Cr Lynne Czinner, Pittwater Council officer Steve Evans, DLWC officer Greg Foster, members of the local community and representatives from CBPPG attended this meeting. AMI presented preliminary concept plans and also provided information packages on the proposed development of the leased area.

The meeting was very successful with the majority of attendees providing valuable feedback and accepting the need for "managed change". In fact, Steve Evans spoke in favour of AMI in regards to the pro-active community consultation process that we have adopted.

As part of our consultation process, if you would like to make comments on our proposal, please contact us using the details provided above.
